Health & Freedom

Dave Fonder is a Ruby director and a Top 100 income earner in USANA. But, it didn't start out that way. USANA found Dave 7 years ago when he was working 60 to 70 hours a week at his own company which had taken him 30 years to build. That company had robbed Dave of his time and his health. Regaining his health was all that mattered and thanks to USANA products and diet, Dave has his health back. Also, although Dave was skeptical at the start, he discovered that the power of the USANA compensation plan has given him the time freedom of which his tradition business had robbed him.

Nancy Schultz is a Gold director with USANA. Seeking financial security, she owned 5 different businesses in the last 25 years. Her last two businesses were a Citgo and a McDonald's restaurant and while convenience stores gave her the security she sought, the cost of that financial security was a mountain of headaches and no vacation time for the preceding 18 years. Three years ago when introduced to USANA, she worked it on the in-betweens of her busy schedule. That part-time effort allowed Nancy to sell her traditional businesses allowing her to focus on USANA full-time.

Both Dave and Nancy joined USANA for financial freedom, among other important reasons, and find it a rewarding way to help other people.

Five Rules to Follow When Prospecting in Your Warm Market

By Tim Sales

Forget for a second that you’re in network marketing. What if you were starting any other kind of business like a retail store, a salon, or a construction company. Where would you get your customers? Your employees? How about business partners? Where would you find them?

In one or more of those categories a friend, acquaintance or family member might be the right fit, maybe not. Maybe they know someone who is the right fit. Somehow it always works itself back to an acquaintance, a recommendation or a referral. This is called your "warm market."

Life seems to be a series of experiences brought on by connections to other people. Your job as a Networker is to connect the bridges together and move past the disinterested in a professional and honest way, without "pushing." Most businesses begin this way.

Your warm market can be one of the greatest resources to your business. Dealing with family and friends can be a blessing or a curse, but if you want your family and friends to continue to respect you, give you referrals, be your customer, and possibly say "yes" to your presentation, I recommend you follow these five rules to working with your warm market:

Rule #1 – Hold your tongue. Don’t ever insult someone for his or her decision not to buy your products or participate with you in your business. Don’t tell someone they’re stupid for not doing business with you, even if it is the way you "talk to your brother." It’s unprofessional and out of place.

Rule #2 – Be wise. "No" rarely means never. That same brother in three weeks or three years could lose his job. If you’ve made a fool out of yourself, not only will he not do the business, he will tell all of your friends to avoid you. All of this because "you told him" how stupid he was. That’s not wise.

Rule #3 – Deal with it. For 10 years I’ve dealt with objections, concerns, past failures, bad experiences, etc, which have all taught me how to successfully handle these issues. The good news is that all of these objections are resolved and discussed in the "Brilliant Compensation" DVD presentation. Just as an experienced dentist knows that treating teeth is the easy part and the hard part is dealing with the patient’s "baggage"… like the time the "other" dentist stuck a six-foot needle in their gum when they were 14 years old. "Dealing" with these issues is what "wins" the patient. Once the trust is established you’ve got them for life or until you decide to stop servicing their needs.

Rule #4 – Yes or No. Some prospects just take one conversation to be interested and some prospects take 10 conversations. (Nine of those conversations resulted in a "No" answer even though the reason for the "No" was never stated.) If you take the thought process as being that either the prospect says "Yes" or "No," then you’ll miss the art of communication and networking. Suppose your company has 20 products. If your prospect says "No", find out what they are saying "No" to. Are they saying "No" to all 20 products? Are they saying "No" to "I don’t want to diversify my income?", or to "I don’t know anyone who needs or wants any of your 20 products?" That’s a lot to say "No" to. I recommend that you find out exactly what your prospects are truly saying "No" to, then deal with that issue.

Rule #5 – Don’t be a bug. Do not ever "bug" family and friends about your company or products. Sometimes Networkers get extremely focused, which is good, and it should never be suppressed. Focus is what creates success. Just be disciplined as to what and who deserves that focus. If it’s a friend or family member who clearly isn’t interested, quit wasting time there and get in front of people who do want this.

And there you have it – five rules to follow when working with your friends and family.

Hello, Usana family!

Hello, Usana family!

Usana is an awesome business, as you all know. And using the tools is strongly encouraged so you can benefit through the growth of your business.

Your question about the lead that is looking for a "JOB" (read the lead's tasks) is directly addressed on Diamond Director Michael Ray's CD, "Cold Call Connection." You can get it at Pro Tools (www.unitogether.com). He has that specific example, and he suggests not wasting

your time. Even if you are able to convince them somehow to invest the money, they aren't going to be happy because that's not what they are looking for.....I've been there, done that, more than once and in my experience I agree with Michael, it's a waste of time.

"Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire,
sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon
. . . must inevitably come to pass.”

"It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept
anything but the best, you very often get it."

USANA Health Sciences, Inc. (USNA)

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec 19, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- USANA Health Sciences, Inc. (USNA), a health supplement supplier of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), had four PRCA riders who placed at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, which ended Saturday in Las Vegas.

Steer wrestler Todd Suhn impressed the PRCA and fans alike at the Thomas & Mack Center by grabbing second place in the final round of the Wrangler National Finals. Suhn placed eighth in the year-end world standings and fifth in the overall Wrangler tour standings.

Barrel racer and USANA Associate Vickie Solmonsen, who stands in eighth place in the world standings and third in the overall tour standings, took home sixth place in the final barrel racing round. Bareback rider Kelly Timbermann placed 12th in the finals, holds an eighth-place ranking in the world and holds an overall Wrangler tour ranking of second place in bareback riding. Steer wrestler Sean Mulligan, who sits in fourth place in the world standings this year, finished sixth in the final round and second in the overall standings at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

"It was a great year and the Wrangler National Finals was spectacular," Mulligan said. "USANA's health supplements were a huge reason that I was able to perform at a high level for 10 days in a row. Many contestants got run down over the long 10 rounds in Las Vegas. I was able to win three performances, place in two more, and finish second overall at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. I believe that when I'm away from home that it is imperative that I have quality health supplements available to perform at my best."

USANA is excited to be associated with these great PRCA athletes and congratulates them for their showing at the Wrangler National Finals as well as their impressive overall standings for 2007.

USANA Cleared of Informal SEC Inquiry

Hello Success Team International,

If anyone you know has concerns about the drama which Barry Minkow stirred up in 2007, then the two releases below will be a good read for them to bring understanding and closure to this. Perhaps, save a copy of this email in your file in case someone has concerns around Minkow antics in the future. Keep in mind that USANA is dedicating considerable attention and resources to prosecute Minkow. If USANA's case goes as planned, he will most likely end up back in prison.

The more successful public companies become (examples: USANA #3 in Hottest Growth of Business Week, top 20 in Forbes for past three years, record sales for five years), the more likely it will be a target. However, rest assured that your Independent Distributor Council and USANA Senior Management are implementing several preventative measures so that we are much less vulnerable in the future to short selling schemes or critics.

Keep spreading the vision and charging to your dreams!

News ReleaseSEC Closes Informal Inquiry of USANA

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 2008--USANA Health Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ:USNA) announced today it has received a letter from the Salt Lake Regional Office of the Securities & Exchange Commission stating it has completed the informal inquiry regarding the company and is not recommending any enforcement action be taken.
USANA voluntarily disclosed the SEC's informal inquiry in March 2007, which the company believes was related to assertions appearing in the mass media. The company cooperated fully with the SEC during its inquiry.

"USANA greatly appreciates the diligence of the SEC in completing its informal inquiry, and we are pleased to put this matter behind us," said David A. Wentz, president of USANA Health Sciences Inc. "We have always been confident about the integrity of our company and take pride in our direct selling business model. All of us at USANA look forward to continuing to provide our tens of thousands of Associates and Preferred Customers worldwide with the finest nutritional products and an excellent home-based business opportunity."

Usana Health Sciences Vindicated against Stalker
Usana Health Sciences Vindicated against Stalker- January 11, 2008

David Patch
Any researcher of the Securities and Exchange Commission website looking for information on a scheme of manipulation called the ‘short and distort’ will find themselves hard pressed to find anything of substance. Unlike the extensive warnings and enforcement hearings issued by the Commission on the ‘pump and dump’ method of stock manipulation there is no such information or enforcement track record on the equally abusive ‘short and distort’.

At the present time, there are near a dozen lawsuits littered across this country where executives of public companies have accused short sellers of using access to financial media to disseminate false and misleading information about their companies. The issuers further allege that these same parties will file false claims to the Commission in order to create a bogus SEC investigation into the issuer to distort market sentiment.
The intent of the distortion of fact is to create fear and panic and drive down the market of the public issuer creating profit to any preexisting short position held prior to the news releases.

Usana Health Sciences (USNA) is one such company under the alleged attack of a ‘short and distort’ campaign.

In March 2007 USNA was trading at a market price above $60.00/share. But that was before felon Barry Minkow came calling through his access to the Wall Street Journal.

Barry Minkow has served prison time in the 1990’s for security fraud and since obtaining his freedom has developed a research company called Fraud Discovery Institute. The primary focus on the operation is to identify and then publicly trash companies Minkow perceives of running a scam.

Like former Crazy Eddie CFO and convicted felon Sam Antar, Minkow goes out and stalks public companies and presents his unsubstantiated allegations through his site distribution. Each disseminates relentless levels of negative information on the targeted companies under the guise of more material makes the story more credible.

In the disclosure statement on Fraud Discovery Institute Minkow admits that he may hold short positions in the issuers they are stalking. The disclosure statement is buried deeply into his Privacy Policy and Disclaimer statement located elsewhere and not on the individual accusatory publications.

Like Antar, Minkow has no actual evidence to support his allegations instead dressing up public information and investigative information in a manner that looks convincing but with a flaw, it is not always accurate.
Minkow and Antar use their history as a criminal in the stock market to ultimately justify the accuracy of their findings. After all we have all heard the “takes one to know one” phrase. These two should seek out patent rights to the phrase as they use it so much in their self-advertisement of who they are and why they now do what they do.
In March 2007 Minkow and the Wall Street Journal discussed his baseless allegations of fraud taking place within Usana. Minkow accused the firm of running a pyramid scheme and the WSJ ran the report in a ‘Heard on the Street’ report. The impact of the article was definitive.
Shortly after the Wall Street Journal article was released the $60.00/share market for Usana began an abrupt shift and by April 30th the market in Usana was trading below $40.00/share. By August 7 the stock had fallen to levels below $30.00/share. The market cap in Usana had dropped nearly $480 Million in a matter of 4 months after the article was relased.

A look into Minkow’s site documents the level of public stalking by Minkow during this period of ‘market adjustment’.

In fact, the attention Minkow was creating brought in the standard package of support networking as the Securities and Exchange Commission initiated an informal investigation into Minkow’s allegations and the associate firm to short sellers, Milberg Weiss, initiated a Class Action lawsuit against the company within days of the report.

Why Milberg Weiss?
Milberg Weiss is presently under indictment for providing kickbacks to planted plaintiffs in class action lawsuits filed. The federal indictment contains language stating that Weiss had advanced knowledge of companies whose market was about to come under pressure and planted lead plaintiffs in the company as long investors just prior to the market collapses.

The US Attorney has not yet detailed exactly how Milberg Weiss had the foreknowledge of the upcoming market adjustment and likewise, the SEC appears disinterested in investigating insider trading and stock manipulation charges on this foreknowledge. I would certainly want to know how this takes place if market regulation was my career responsibility and I certainly would want to understand the frequency and mechanics of how such takes place.

As for the allegations against Usana Health Sciences Minkow, Weiss, and the SEC were all proven to be wrong this week.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has concluded their informal investigation into Usana Health Sciences and issued them a clean bill of health.

The negativity about Usana created by the financial media, Minkow, and Milberg Weiss were all shown to be nothing but distortions of the truth. The distortions initiated by stock fraudster Barry Minkow created nothing short of a venue for market manipulation that benefited all short sellers in the company.

Barry Minkow himself is accused by Usana of holding a short position in the company during this window of extreme financial opportunity. The short position acting as his catalyst to increase the public dissemination of more and more distorted facts.

Under SEC policy, the SEC would not confirm or deny whether an investigation exists into Minkow or his site publications of false material. Minkow has made no public disclosures on his site of a possible SEC investigation but he does not have to either. Only public companies are required to disclose such material events.

How many more stock manipulation opportunities like this exist in the capital marketplace? Opportunities where intended distortions of fact are confused by authorities with free speech rights when it comes to public issuers.

A FOIA Request into the SEC would not shed much light on this question. The SEC responded to my request by declaring that the agency fails to maintain records of how investigations are initiated and what source created such investigations. There is no way to identify patterns of abuse by interested third parties using the complaint process to create bogus investigations and manipulate markets.

That would of course be logical in a non-logic orientated agency.

What we are aware of through public information is that court transcripts of the trail against convicted felon Anthony Elgindy provide significant insight into Mr. Elgindy’s ability to generate SEC Investigations into public companies. Convicted Felon Sam Antar has likewise admitted to gaining access to several bureaus of the SEC to launch his allegations against public issuers, and former SEC Enforcement Attorney Richard Sauer admitted in a NY Times Op-Ed piece that he utilized the short seller frequently when initiating investigations. Sauer used the Op-Ed space provided by the NY Times to canonize the short seller as the unsung hero for maintaining market controls.

At the time of the Op-Ed piece Sauer had left the SEC and was employed by the short interest hedge fund that previously provided Sauer with many of his cases. No conflict of interest there and no full and transparent disclosure in the Op-ed piece published that his employer was one and the same with the investigations he conducted.

With this evidence before us it dos not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a significant flaw in SEC enforcement exists. The financial press has provided stock manipulators with access to the public and instead of investigating the validity of such access, and taking appropriate actions against those distorting the facts the SEC focuses on the issuers and in the process aiding the manipulation process. The problem is exacerbated when felons, convicted of securities fraud, become the point of credibility in this process.

So you ask, what did the SEC’s clean bill of health disclosure have on the market in Usana? The stock gapped open up 25% today providing credence to the negative impact a bogus SEC investigation can have on a public issuer.

Usana has sued Minkow for defamation based on the allegations presented on his website and public statements issued through the financial press.

Such a lawsuit, win or lose, will never provide comfort to all those investors who lost hundreds of millions in losses. With 16 Million shares issued and outstanding the $30.00 drop in market value erased $480 Million in market capitalization. Such a decline also limited the company’s access to capital, a business impact that can never be fully evaluated.

So the next time you peruse the SEC web site take that search on the ‘short and distort’ and compare the results to the ‘pump and dump’. When you see what I have seen, write to your Congressman and ask why the SEC has turned a blind eye to this method of abuse. The evidence proves it exists, why hasn’t the SEC taken the necessary steps to clean it up? Worse, the SEC has become a major player in the fraud itself.

UPDATE: Court Documents in the Usana v. Minkow case has revealed that Sam Antar is a major financier of Minkow in this stalking attack. (See Page 4 of this attachment)

Do Cholesterol Drugs Do Any Good?

On newsstands now, for the first time ever on a major magazine (BusinessWeek) is a cover story entitled, "Lipitor: For Many People, Cholesterol Drugs May Not Do Any Good."

Follow this link Do Cholesterol Drugs Do Any Good? to BusinessWeek online.

Here are the reasons that I think this would be of interest to those in USANA:

1. Heart disease is the number cause of death for both men and women, and it is mostly caused by our lifestyle choices; diet, lack of exercise, smoking, obesity, high homocysteine levels, deficiency of antioxidants (oxidized LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and arteries). It is not caused by a lack of statin drugs. Heart disease and atherosclerosis is caused by oxidative stress. To maintain heart health antioxidants and a proper lifestyle (diet, exercise, etc.) are critical; i.e.; the USANA message.

2. Statin drugs are the number one prescribed drugs in the U.S., let alone the world, and cause a depletion in co-enzyme Q10 levels in the body, with resultant serious side-effects. We in USANA know something about the importance of co-Q10.

3. It is difficult for USANA associates to encourage potential customers/associates to be on USANA because their doctors have them on statin drugs, and put down the use of nutritional supplements.

4. The article in BusinessWeek (January 28, 2008) provides 3rd-party information that shows that statin drugs, although they lower LDL cholesterol, they do NOT prevent heart attacks, strokes, and death in the majority of cases (actually, according to the article out of 100 people on a statin drug, only 1 person will benefit). All of them are having their co-Q10 levels depleted, and their cardiac function is being impaired, among other side-effects.

5. The article ALSO points out that the ONLY people to benefit from statin drugs are those who are at high risk for heart attacks (people with coronary artery disease), and even then, they should be on low-dose statin drugs (10 to 20 mg), ...with combination use of co-Q10 to off-set the side-effects of the drug. (I want to point out here that there are many good physicians both in and outside USANA who are properly prescribing low-dose statin drugs WITH antioxidants, including co-Q10 because the medical research indicates that is the responsible protocol at this time among those who are at high risk for heart disease.)

6. The statin drugs mechanism of action in reducing the risk of repeat heart attack in those who are at high risk of heart attack is NOT through the lowering of LDL cholesterol (as I have been writing about for years), but is through this drugs anti-inflammatory / antioxidant effect ! This has been one of the on-going themes of my messages, and add all of the above together, I believe it all applies to the TRUE HEALTH message.

I think it is a turning point in the media, ....unless of course, Pfizer steps up its ads in BusinessWeek and spins, ...excuse me, "sponsors" favorable articles about Lipitor over the next few months, while trashing the use of nutritional supplements, which is par for the course in the battle for people's opinion in the media.

Cute and healthy, Rosendo Rivera was everything his mother dreamed of.
"He slept, he ate, he gained a lot of weight; he was fine, everything was perfect," says his mother, Mayra Rivera.

But when he was 4 months old, Rosendo's mom got an inkling that something was wrong. First his eyes started to cross -- that was just the beginning.

"He went from laughing, rolling to completely being a baby who couldn't hold his head up. He stopped laughing, rolling, babbling. I said this is like a bad dream. I can't believe this is happening," said Mayra.

Doctors were stumped. Rosendo continued to deteriorate and had up to 60 seizures a day. He was diagnosed with everything from mental retardation to cerebral palsy, and then, something worse: mitochondrial disease, a condition in which the body can't produce energy.

His prognosis: He wouldn't live past his teens.

"I was devastated. I was watching my son deteriorate before my eyes, and there was nothing I could do for him. This cannot be my life, this cannot be my son's life. I was waiting for God to give us a miracle," says Mayra.
By chance, she met Dr. Mary Kay Koenig, who believed Rosendo may have been misdiagnosed, and Mayra got the miracle she had been dreaming of.

"I realized that although he had been tested for a majority of conditions that can cause his symptoms, he had not been tested for cerebral folate deficiency," says Koenig.

In folate deficiency, the body is unable to transport the vitamin folic acid to the brain, resulting in seizures, mobility problems and blindness. Fortunately though, this disease is 100 percent treatable in toddlers with a simple supplement.

In August, Mayra got the news: Rosendo had folate deficiency.
"I was so happy I was crying. I was like, thank you God, my prayers are answered. I knew it was a miracle," says Mayra.

Not only was he not going to die, but he could actually recover. Rosendo has been taking the supplements for four months now, and he has made remarkable strides.

"He's sleeping better, he's babbling, he's making new sounds, he's sitting down for longer periods of time. It's really exciting. It may be little for some people but really exciting for us. It's big,"says Mayra.

Bright Future
Dr. Pamela Blake joined "Good Morning America" today to share the latest details of Rosendo's recovery.

"He's gaining ground very quickly from all of the delays that he had. He is doing very well. He's had a great return of his visual function. His motor function is better, he is starting to talk, he can say "Momma," which he could not do before," says Blake.

Nowadays Mayra even has reason to hope that Rosendo might be able to live a normal life.

"Fortunately, because he was diagnosed properly and treated before the age of 3, the expectation is that he will do very well and hopefully should have a full recovery," says Blake.
Age 3 is turning point, because before that brain development is very precious and any deprivation of sensation can cause life-long damage.
"Folic acid is transported by a different receptor, a different protein taken into the brain and he has no problems with that receptor, so it's very simple," says Blake.

What makes it even better is that it's about as easy as it gets to administer. Rosendo takes just one tablet a day now. He'll have to for the rest of his life, but doctors say now that his life should be a long and healthy one.

Supplement Safety Myths & Facts

MYTH: If it's natural, it must be good for you.

FACT: While research has shown many natural treatments to be safe and effective, they should be taken with consideration.

While many vitamins, minerals, and herbs are known to safely prevent or treat a variety of diseases, they work by altering your body chemistry—just like a medicine from your pharmacy. So before you take an herb or supplement, find out how it might interact with medications you are already taking. Sometimes an interaction can mean that a medicine is depleting vital nutrients from your body, and that an extra vitamin supplement is best for your health—but it's always a good idea to check. It’s also important to never discontinue or change dosage of a medication in favor of a natural treatment unless supervised by a doctor.
MYTH: Everything I need to know about a supplement I can read on the bottle.

FACT: Government regulations restrict manufacturers from making specific health claims—even those based on results of scientific studies.
To find out about the potential benefits and risks of taking a supplement start by doing a little research. It’s always wise to talk to a knowledgeable healthcare professional before taking any supplement, especially if you are taking medications. Also, special safety considerations apply to pregnant or breast-feeding women and to children.

To learn what scientific research has found about your medication’s interactions with herbs or supplements, look in Healthnotes Rx Answers. For reported side effects of a specific herb or nutritional supplement, look it up in Vitamins & Herbs.

MYTH: The latest scientific research is the last word on a supplement’s safety or effectiveness.

FACT: The quality of the full body of research should be considered—not just the latest.

In scientific process, scientists never consider one single study to be the last word; rather, each new study is added to previous research and becomes part of the medical community’s “discussion.”
Keep in mind that when the news media report on new studies, they tend to look for the sensational. Though thousands of studies are published every year showing the benefits of herbs and supplements for a wide range of diseases, studies that make the news are frequently those that claim a supplement is dangerous or doesn’t work. On the other hand, some research is conducted by groups that stand to profit from positive results, such as a supplement manufacturer “proving” that their supplement works for a particular health condition.

The next time you see a headline splashed across the news—especially about those supplements that continue to be the subject of heated debate, such as St. John’s wort, echinacea, vitamin E, vitamin C, ginkgo, ephedra, and kava—keep some perspective by thinking about the following:

Who is doing the reporting? Is it a health column describing the study itself? A TV reporter relating second- or third-hand news from a press release or conference proceedings?

How strong is the evidence? (Some studies lead to convincing conclusions while others are preliminary.)

Are the results published in a scientific journal?

Did the researchers use a control group to compare treatment results with the experiences of people who didn't use it? (If not, improvement attributed to a treatment may be a placebo affect.)

Was the supplement given in a form and amount, and for a duration, that could be expected to be effective?

Was the study conducted by people who have no vested interest in the outcome?

Is there a body of research that suggests it may help with a particular health condition?

Caution: It is never advisable to discontinue or change dosage of a medication and/or begin a different treatment without a doctor's supervision.

MYTH: Medicines are always more effective than natural treatments.

FACT: Some natural treatments can be at least as effective as medicines; however, it's important to properly evaluate treatment options before deciding which to use.

When you are considering treatment options, discuss the following with your healthcare provider when considering what to try:

What are the risks of delaying known effective treatment in order to try an alternative remedy?

Is the body of research on a supplement’s effectiveness positive or inconclusive, and does it appear to be safe when taken in the proper amounts?

How strong is the evidence for the medical treatment, and what is the expected degree of improvement from taking it?

Are a supplement’s costs equivalent or less than those of the medicines used to treat the same condition?

How do the potential dangers of taking the supplement compare with the relative dangers of taking the over-the-counter or prescription medicine?

Asking such questions will help you interpret the significance of scientific findings. To find answers, talk to a knowledgeable professional, and use a science-based resource, such as Healthnotes, that provides an evaluation of up-to-date research.

Being informed is the best way to make good decisions for your health.

7 benefits of regular physical activity

Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity
Date updated: July 26, 2007

Content provided by MayoClinic.com

Want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer? Look no further than old-fashioned exercise.

The merits of exercise - from preventing chronic health conditions to boosting confidence and self-esteem - are hard to ignore. And the benefits are yours for the taking, regardless of age, sex or physical ability. Need more convincing? Check out seven specific ways exercise can improve your life.

1. Exercise improves your mood.
Need to blow off some steam after a stressful day? A workout at the gym or a brisk 30-minute walk can help you calm down.
Exercise stimulates various brain chemicals, which may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed than you were before you worked out. You'll also look better and feel better when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Exercise even reduces feelings of depression and anxiety.

2. Exercise combats chronic diseases.
Worried about heart disease? Hoping to prevent osteoporosis? Regular exercise might be the ticket.

Regular exercise can help you prevent - or manage - high blood pressure. Your cholesterol will benefit, too. Regular exercise boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," cholesterol while decreasing low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or "bad," cholesterol. This one-two punch keeps your blood flowing smoothly by lowering the buildup of plaques in your arteries.

And there's more. Regular exercise can help you prevent type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and certain types of cancer.

3. Exercise helps you manage your weight.
Want to drop those excess pounds? Trade some couch time for walking or other physical activities.

This one's a no-brainer. When you exercise, you burn calories. The more intensely you exercise, the more calories you burn - and the easier it is to keep your weight under control. You don't even need to set aside major chunks of time for working out. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk during your lunch break. Do jumping jacks during commercials. Better yet, turn off the TV and take a brisk walk. Dedicated workouts are great, but activity you accumulate throughout the day helps you burn calories, too.

4. Exercise strengthens your heart and lungs.
Winded by grocery shopping or household chores? Don't throw in the towel. Regular exercise can leave you breathing easier.
Exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues. In fact, regular exercise helps your entire cardiovascular system - the circulation of blood through your heart and blood vessels - work more efficiently. Big deal? You bet! When your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you'll have more energy to do the things you enjoy.

5. Exercise promotes better sleep.
Struggling to fall asleep? Or stay asleep? It might help to boost your physical activity during the day.

A good night's sleep can improve your concentration, productivity and mood. And, you guessed it, exercise is sometimes the key to better sleep. Regular exercise can help you fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep. The timing is up to you - but if you're having trouble sleeping, you might want to try late afternoon workouts. The natural dip in body temperature five to six hours after you exercise might help you fall asleep.

6. Exercise can put the spark back into your sex life.
Are you too tired to have sex? Or feeling too out of shape to enjoy physical intimacy? Exercise to the rescue.

Regular exercise can leave you feeling energized and looking better, which may have a positive effect on your sex life. But there's more to it than that. Exercise improves your circulation, which can lead to more satisfying sex. And men who exercise regularly are less likely to have problems with erectile dysfunction than are men who don't exercise, especially as they get older.

7. Exercise can be - gasp - fun!
Wondering what to do on a Saturday afternoon? Looking for an activity that suits the entire family? Get physical!

Exercise doesn't have to be drudgery. Take a ballroom dancing class. Check out a local climbing wall or hiking trail. Push your kids on the swings or climb with them on the jungle gym. Plan a neighborhood kickball or touch football game. Find an activity you enjoy, and go for it. If you get bored, try something new. If you're moving, it counts!

Are you convinced? Good. Start reaping the benefits of physical activity today!

Do You Know Anyone Born Between 1965 and 1980?

For Gen X, it's time to grow up and get a broker
Many say they have high debt, little ability to save for retirement
Usana Difference Author says they need the USANA opportunity

By Jennifer Alsever
MSNBC contributor
updated 5:52 p.m. CT, Thurs., Nov. 8, 2007

Generation X may have shed the slacker image over the past decade as its members moved beyond coffee shop jobs and into the suburbs, SUVs and corporate boardrooms. But when it comes to saving for retirement, the description still fits.

Most Gen Xers, the oldest of whom are heading into their 40s, are woefully behind in saving for retirement. Nearly half of the 5,000 Gen Xers surveyed by Charles Schwab this year said they are so saddled with debt or live on such tight budgets they can’t even think about saving.

“They’re not a saving generation — they’re spenders,” said Gio Van Remortel, a 36-year-old who studies her generation as a futurist at Social Technologies, a research and consulting firm in Washington.

Melanie Keller, 35, admits that fact. She worries about retirement because she only has $3,000 put away in a 401(k) plan and has no other investments. But instead of socking away money for retirement, the pharmaceutical saleswoman is trying to save $60,000 so she can buy a starter home where she lives in San Jose, Calif.

“I am worried, but I don’t feel like after I pay all the bills — with rent, car payment — I have enough money” for savings, she said.

Indeed, the expenses of a house, car and all the other possessions that go along with being an adult often leave Gen Xers very little to sock away in a 401(k) system that grows money incrementally, said Van Remortel. Even if they are not supersizing their lives and living beyond their means, she said, many Gen Xers — generally defined as those born from 1965 to 1980 — carry significant debt due to college alone. Once they have kids, they begin to worry about saving for their college educations, and retirement planning often drops in priority.

Recognizing those pressures, investment firms are offering new incentives tailored to get Gen Xers to invest. The Principal Financial Group, which runs 401(k) plans for 47,000 employers and their 3 million workers, offers free music downloads to people who boost their contributions to retirement accounts. The company also sends financial counselors to the offices of their clients to offer free advice on 401(k) planning.

Fact File | Generation X
— 62 percent say they live paycheck to paycheck.
— 56 percent have an outstanding credit-card balance of $3,000 or more.
— 62 percent of women say they have not bought any investment products.
— 45 percent of women would buy 30 pairs of shoes before saving $30,000 in retirement assets.
— 65 percent of women and 48 percent of men said they do not know how a mutual fund works.
— Nearly 65 percent did not know that when interest rates go up bond prices typically go down.
— 38 percent of women have not started saving for retirement.
Source: OppenheimerFunds

Broker Charles Schwab meanwhile has lowered its minimum balances to $100 for people opening new investment accounts and offers high-yield checking accounts linked to brokerage accounts. “If they can start with a checking account, they can invest easily over time,” said Jonathan Craig, a vice president at Schwab.

Still, Gen Xers may face bigger financial challenges than their parents and grandparents did. On top of the big mortgages, college loans and the rising child education costs, they face the fact that few employers offer traditional pensions anymore, meaning they take on more of the burden of retirement. Plus, the future of Social Security is more uncertain than ever. Unless Congress makes changes, the trust fund that helps pay for the federal entitlement is likely to be exhausted by 2040 — about the time most Gen Xers hit retirement.

Credit card debt, too, remains another big roadblock to many people. As many as 40 percent of Gen X women and 58 percent of men said they carried a credit card balance of $5,000 or more, according to a 2006 survey of 300 people by OppenheimerFunds. Nearly half of women interviewed said they would rather buy 30 pairs of shoes than save $30,000 for retirement.

Waiting to pay off that debt before saving for retirement could be a big mistake, said Doug Charney, president of the Charney Investment Group of Wachovia Securities in Harrisburg, Pa.

“Pay yourself first,” Charney said. He advises people to set aside at least 15 percent of their income into a retirement account. If that’s too much, people should start small with maybe 4 percent or 5 percent and gradually increase the contribution as they get pay raises.

“If you don’t save 10 percent of your income, you won’t be able to maintain the lifestyle you’re used to,” Charney said. For many people, that equates to saving about $2 million by retirement, after accounting for inflation. Those who haven’t put away enough money may have to work into their 70s. (Charney later sent an e-mail raising his target to 15 percent of income.)

Still, many people don’t understand how to invest or what is the best way to invest, and some are spending the retirement money they do save, according to surveys by financial institutions. As many as 40 percent of people cash out their 401(k) money when they leave a job rather than rolling the money over to grow in another retirement account, according to the Principal Financial Group.

Count Robert Betts as one of those people who made that decision. Burned out on his job at a Manhattan advertising agency, the 36-year-old Betts quit his job in 2005 and blew through $28,000 from his 401(k) plan while unemployed for 18 months. Now working for a Denver ad agency, he puts $500 a month into his 401(k) in an effort to catch up.

“When you see your 401(k) grow on top of what you put into it, it’s tough to swallow that you could have been doing that for 10 years,” said Betts. But he doesn’t regret using the retirement money to take time to clear his head.

“I could die poor in the gutter at 60, and I wouldn’t regret taking that money,” he said. “I’m much happier, and my career is on track.”

GOAL SETTING AND ACTION PLANS

GOAL SETTING AND ACTION PLANS
By Pete Zdanis

I spend a lot of time working with new people in my group helping them develop their goals and action plans for their Usana business.

I always ask them to make the initial effort to put their goals and plans in writing, and then share them with me for review and suggestions. The main reason I do this is because, unless they develop their goals themselves, they will never take ownership of them and will likely not take the necessary actions to reach the goals.

What I usually discover in the first draft I receive from new distributors is one of two extremes:

o Very general and vague - "I want to earn $1,000.00 per week in Usana."

o Extremely detailed and mind-numbing "business plans" which would require a Harvard MBA to understand.

The first example is far too general, and doesn't provide any detail on what must be done to achieve the goal. At the end of every day, there would be no way to measure if you made any progress toward your goal.

The second example is far too detailed, and usually overwhelms people and causes "paralysis by analysis". It would be impractical to review an elaborate business plan daily to measure progress.

What's the solution?:

Start with one or two high level goals with a specific target date, and then "work backward" to develop more specific action plans to achieve the goal(s).

For example:

Primary Goal:

"Become a Gold Director in 12 months."

Good. That's a specific goal with a defined time frame.

Now, let's break that down into smaller, manageable actions steps that are needed to achieve the goal.

For example, we know that the average Gold Director has personally sponsored 30 to 40 new Distributors.

So, let's define an action step, or secondary goal, to reach the primary goal:

"Personally sponsor three new Distributors per month".

OK. That will certainly get us to our primary goal, but - How do we sponsor three new Distributors per month?

Well, let's break it down into even smaller steps................

There are many, many different ways and methods to sponsor new distributors - warm market, classified ads, purchased leads, etc., etc. The various methods, combined with the individual Distributor's belief, confidence and experience level, make it difficult to determine specifically, at least initially, how many presentations a particular Distributor would have to make to sponsor one new Distributor

For the sake of this exercise, let simply, assume that they would sponsor one out of every ten people they make a presentation to. Note: By "presentation", I am referring to an H&F Meeting, a one-on-one H&F Presentation in person, an information pack sent by snail mail or e-mail, or a telephone presentation using the H&F Presentation, Fast Facts, etc. Therefore, we would need to make thirty presentations in one month in order to sponsor three new Distributors in a month.

So, our next level goal or action step would be:

"Make 30 presentations per month."

OK - Hang in there, we're almost done.............

Not everyone we talk to is interested in learning more about becoming involved in Usana. So, we're obviously going to need to contact more than 30 people in order to schedule 30 presentations. Again, the ratio of contacts to presentations varies widely based on many variables, similar to those listed above. But, for the sake of example, let's assume that half of the people we contact would be interested in learning more about Usana, i.e., would be willing to view / attend / listen to a presentation.

So, our next level goal or action step would be:

"Make 60 contacts per month." (Or an average of two per day)

NOW we have something to grab on to. We now know that, in order to become a Gold Director in one year, (Primary Goal) you would need to make an average of two contacts per day (Single Daily Action Plan – SDA).

Now, at the end of every day, you can look back at your activities for the day, ask yourself if you took needed action to reach your primary goal, provide an answer, and rate yourself:

o Zero Contacts - "F" - failed for the day.

o One Contact - "C" - did okay, but need to do better tomorrow.

o Two Contacts - "A" - achieved my goal, and am on track to reach my primary goal.

o More than two Contacts - "A+" - I may reach my primary goal faster than my target date.

CAUTION: Don't get all hung up about the numbers in the above examples. They are simply that - examples. As you gain in experience and knowledge, you may find that more than half of the people you contact would be willing to learn more about Usana, and that more than 10% of the presentations you make will result in a signup. In fact, I KNOW that will be the case.

Best of success!

Pete Zdanis

The One and Only Right Way...

The One and Only Right Way...

The idea of duplication has taken on considerable status in the theories of Network Marketing business-building. Some "success systems," however, take this idea too far--to the detriment of many distributors with unique skills and connections, says Tom Schreiter. Here's what the seasoned Networker has to say about the myth and reality of duplication...

by Tom (Big Al) Schreiter

I LIKE THINGS TO BE BLACK AND WHITE, RIGHT OR WRONG WITH no ambiguity. Don't you? Knowing how to do it right saves me from thinking.
So, wouldn't it be nice if there was only one right way to do Network Marketing?

Sure... would be nice. But I certainly haven't found the way. And, I'm not sure why there should be only one way to do Network Marketing right.
I see many ways of doing our business that work. Every day, people succeed in our business, each doing the business a little or a lot differently.

For example: I hate using the telephone. I'm extremely uncomfortable whenever I'm in a phone conversation longer than 30 seconds. So, what would happen if my sponsor told me, "The only way to be successful in Network Marketing is to use the telephone."?

Well, maybe I could force myself to suffer for a month or two, but after a period of continued suffering, I'd look for another way of doing the business that was more comfortable for me--unless I'd already found a way out of the business.

I've sponsored leaders who have built their entire business over the telephone.

The process works. I just choose to do it in a more enjoyable way for me.
My favorite method is to sponsor someone across the kitchen table. Maybe it's my preoccupation with food--I don't know--but that method works great for me.

But what about my leaders who build their business by phone? They'd quickly return to using the telephone if I forced them to do the business in my "table-top" way.

Some leaders build their business through opportunity meetings, product parties, person-to-person cold calls, direct mail, advertising, referrals... many different ways. I respect all these methods. I don't use them all myself, but I respect them. And, as a leader, I try to learn as much as I can about each method, so I can help new distributors who choose one of these alternate ways of building their business.

Network Marketing should be fun. We should enjoy our business. So why would you want to ruin your fun by using a business-building method you hate?

HOW MANY DIFFERENT METHODS are there to build your Network Marketing business?

Lots. I've written five books on recruiting and each book is filled with different methods and techniques.

The biggest service we can render to new distributors is to help them find what method works for them. Then, let's help them use that method to build their business successfully.

Egos and Hero Worship
Here is where the different methods make people uncomfortable: imagine you are a leader and have built your group by running radio ads for opportunity meetings.

Great! It works for you.
However, being human, you decide that you've found the one and only secret to success. In fact, you insist that everyone in your group uses the exact same method (and worships you as the founder of the ultimate Networking success truth, too).

Then what happens?
Soon the radio is full of similar ads. Listeners turn off their attention as soon as they hear the ads run again. Some of your distributors run their own ads that don't work. People with hearing disabilities will never hear of your opportunity. Some communities in the valley don't get good radio reception. Some people are watching TV.

Well, you get the point. This one ultimate truth isn't so ultimate, i.e., it won't work for everybody.

The Duplication Myth
I'm not sure who started the rumor that everything you must do in MLM must be duplicatable for your entire downline. Maybe an escapee from a mental institute? A communist insurgent? A government official? I see no need to insist on duplication of your activities--other than to get your ego massaged.

It's okay to use different activities and methods to achieve the results you want. Just because your sponsor doesn't do opportunity meetings, doesn't mean that you are banned from using this proven activity to build your business.

Some people have natural strengths and talents and should take advantage of them to build their Network Marketing organizations.
One of my friends has a 10,000 mailing list of customers who know and trust him. What am I going to say to him?

"Don't mail or contact your customers. Sure, lots of them would love to join and be in your business, but it's not duplicatable! No one else has 10,000 customers. Don't do it. You're setting a bad example."

I don't think I could tell my friend that. It's ludicrous. I'd encourage my friend to contact his natural market even though few people could duplicate his method.

What about someone who is a great speaker who motivates crowds to his cause? If your system insists that all activities be conducted one-on-one, across the kitchen table, aren't you doing your speaker-distributor a disservice by not allowing him to use his natural talents to build his business?

The Key Difference
Here is what we really need to duplicate--Results!
What results are we looking for in Network Marketing? We want to sponsor distributors and make them successful--right?
If we focus on results, we can allow people the freedom to achieve those results in many different ways.

Some will achieve results contacting prospects by mail. Some by giving product parties. Some by wearing three-piece suits and conducting opportunity meetings. And even some will achieve these results in Bermuda shorts at the beach.

The bottom line is: Don't worry about duplicating activities. Focus on duplicating results.

Why Techniques and Rigid Systems Don't Matter

In the end, it's not so much what you do? it's who you are.
Have you ever seen a new distributor excited about your opportunity? Your new distributor makes all kinds of mistakes and still sponsors lots of people.

Why?
Enthusiasm. Trust. Personal belief. These things show through your new distributor's presentation so loudly that the prospect doesn't care about the business details. Prospects join because of who you are!
They don't join because your marketing plan pays 4% on level three in the alternate months, or because your product explanation took only 2.3 minutes with a magic Columbo close.

Prospects buy you--not your company.

How Do You Learn the Sponsoring Technique That's Right For You?
I learned from personal trial and error.

It's a great way to learn. Unfortunately it has two drawbacks:
It takes a long time to try and test different techniques. It could take years of trial and error and you may end up with scars all over your body (heart and mind). If you have a lot of time and can wait a few years to get your business started, then you are one of the fortunate few. Most of us want results a bit faster.

It's expensive to fund all your trial and error campaigns. Very expensive. If you have money to burn, or just enjoy being poor--abused by credit card collectors, then it's not so bad. However, most of us hate to waste money.

Those are the only two things I have against the trial and error method of finding a good sponsoring technique that works for you.
There's a better way.
Read some books. Attend seminars. Consult with your sponsor. And listen to some tapes of people who have gone before you (check to see if they have scar tissue). Why beat yourself up and spend lots of money when you can read or listen to the results of the different methods you are considering?
Capitalize on the experience of others.
I think that's why many Network Marketing distributors enjoy the Big Al books. They know that I've been out there in the trenches, continue to be in the trenches, and the techniques I write about are from experience. I leave out the hype. I don't tell distributors what techniques to use, I just report them. Adults are smart enough to pick out the techniques they enjoy.
As my good friend Tom Paredes says, "Even if you go to work at McDonald's flipping hamburgers, they still make you go through their training program." With our business, so much more complicated than flipping hamburgers, don't you think it makes sense to learn how to do it?
What Is The Ultimate Secret To Network Marketing Success?
The real secret?
It's to build leaders and make them successful.
Distributors come and go. It's the leaders who count. You want to develop a few good loyal leaders and then, if you choose, you can retire.
If I had my entire career to do all over again, I'd concentrate on building and developing one leader each year.
We talk about the cumulative effect of our efforts in Network Marketing. Well, only leaders accumulate. That's why you should focus your effort into developing leaders.
I have a friend who started with me in Network Marketing 24 years ago. We lost touch until about four years ago. During those 20 years we both worked hard in Network Marketing.

When we finally met, I had a self-sustaining, large and profitable organization. He was starting all over again.
The difference?

I had developed some leaders during my 20 years of hard work. He had sponsored distributors during his 20 years of hard work. We both worked hard. Today, he has no organization. He is still starting over.
THERE IS A "RIGHT WAY" to build your Network Marketing business: Help your new distributors find what method works for them. Then, help them become leaders doing what they do best.

Beginning of a new year

With the beginning of a new year, many people are interested in improving their fitness and health. However, exercising can be a daunting task if a person has been sedentary. Also, it is often the belief that to get benefit one must employ the slogan, "no pain, no gain." This frequently results in frustration and failure to exercise consistently. Fortunately, though, research has shown that mild to moderate exercise does provide significant health and fitness benefits, especially in those who are overweight and sedentary.

Mild exercise

Mild exercise increases fitness and cuts cardiovascular risk A study conducted at Duke University and published in the journal Chest compared the effects of three different exercise regimens on fitness improvements in overweight men and women who were at risk for heart disease. Broken into four groups, the volunteers either did not exercise, walked briskly for 12 miles a week at a moderate intensity, walked briskly or jogged slowly 12 miles a week at a vigorous intensity, or jogged 20 miles a week at a vigorous intensity. Two measurements of fitness - time-to-exhaustion and oxygen consumption - were measured before and after 7 to 9 months of training. All exercise groups saw fitness improvements compared to baseline. Results indicated that two to three hours of mild exercise a week at a moderate intensity is sufficient to increase aerobic fitness and cut the risk of cardiovascular disease. Increasing either the intensity or the amount of exercise provided additional improvements in fitness. Although more vigorous exercise should still be encouraged for maximum benefit, this study demonstrates that it is appropriate to recommend mild exercise to improve fitness levels and reduce cardiovascular disease risk, especially in those who are overweight and sedentary. Grains are energy foods
Grains are a key source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the fuel the body needs for energy.

Simple Carbohydrates- like white sugar and white flour are sources of empty carbs. They burn up fast and have little to no nutritional value.
Complex Carbohydrates- like in whole grains provide a complete complement of necessary nutrients for the body. This steady balanced digestion, is the opposite of the rush, then the crash that spikes sugar levels experienced from highly refined, nutrient-deficient grain.

Whole Grains are complete and contain: Complex Carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals in ideal proportions for the need of the human body. They are also an excellent source of fiber, B-complex, vitamin E, and phosphorus. Minerals, Vitamins, and Energy!

*Grains are seeds from the grass family. The seed is also called the kernel. The kernel is made up of three major parts: the bran, the germ, and the endosperm. Whole grains are grains that are eaten intake.

*There are many different kinds of grains. The most common include whole wheat, whole oats, whole corn, brown rice, whole rye, barley, wild rice, and buckwheat.

Small Changes- More than 40 percent of U.S. adults say they eat no whole grains at all. White to wheat, instant to whole. An analogy that I like to use is from sailing. If you change your course by only a few degrees over the duration of a journey your destination can change dramatically.

Brown Rice is a great start for introducing the healthy benefits of whole grains into your body. Brown rice helps lower the risk of clogged arteries, heart attacks and strokes. The fiber and other nutrients may help lower cholesterol, blood sugar and insulin levels, as well as improve blood vessel functioning and reduce inflammation in the circulatory system. Try some seasonal short grain rice today.

1 cup - Rice 2 cups- Water &Pinch of Sea Salt
Wash rice and drain into strainer. Put rice and water into a pot. Bring the water to a boil. Cover the pot with a lid. Reduce heat to simmer cook for 50-60 minutes. Fluff the rice then enjoy!
